Yarra Trams brand refreshYarra Trams provides structure and support to one of the world's liveliest and most liveable cities. A quintessential Melbourne icon, the tram helps us get to work, back home, to school and the many places we need to be, as well as connecting us with our city and the many cultural and leisure activities that Melbourne has to offer. Our trams welcome visitors with an ease and intimacy that Melbourne is famous for. Melbourne's tram network is the world's largest operating tram network, with more than 100 years of continuous operation. The Melbourne Tram Franchise will continue to operate as Yarra Trams with a brand refresh. The exciting new look will re-energise the brand with a contemporary design specifically developed for the next phase of the Franchise. Initially a number of trams will be fitted with the new livery as demonstration models from the first day of operation, with the remainder of the fleet scheduled for completion in 2012. The refreshed Yarra Trams brand will be phased in over the term of the Franchise, depending on the characteristics of the physical asset and the scheduled infrastructure and rolling stock works programs. A key feature will be the investment of $9 million to improve the reliability of the Z1 and Z2 class trams. Also, the latest in rail grinding technology will be utilised to smooth Melbourne's tram tracks and over $10 million made available by KDR for refreshed applications to the exterior of Z, A, C and D class trams. Additional funds have been allocated to improve the travelling experience of passengers through the allocation of $5 million to replace worn or damaged cloth seats, replacement of vandalised glass in the windows and doors of the Citadis and Combino trams and a deep clean of the entire tram fleet. |
